I've read lots of reviews that say that Verizon Droid's audio is top notch. But some users (including myself) find that the phone audio leaves a lot to be desired. There are reports of echoes and sound that comes through with minor stutters and compression. Not everyone is experiencing this - many Droid users have perfect audio quality. One of the suggested cures for the echo includes turning the speaker phone on and then off.
Verizon appears to recognize that echo is a factor and the issue has been targeted by Verizon for a December 11 service update. The problem is that the target date for fixing open issues ( December 11 ) is a full 5 days outside the standard 30 day return period for those who bought the Droid on launch day (November 6). If the update doesn't fix the audio problem and those users have opted to wait for the fix instead of swapping the phone then they'll possibly be out of luck and stuck with a phone that echoes or delivers poor audio quality.
