This one's gonna leave a mark.
A new Taser that the United States government has paid $2.5 million to develop could shoot a suspect from as far away as 175 feet and shock them for up to 3 minutes. The main problem? In testing they want to make sure that the target doesn't die from the impact or the shock. There's already an X26 Taser available to the military that has an effective range of 35 feet. The problem with increasing the range is making it safe. Something you can shoot (accurately) 175 feet will have a painful impact if fired at close range. MoreGriffin says he's suffered embarrassment, loss of sleep, and depression over the past two years. Even though he's been encouraged to let the incident go by friends and family, he says he can't. He couldn't find a lawyer to take his case. He says the attorneys he spoke with said he would lose in court because he didn't suffer any permanent physical injuries, so he's representing himself. What he'd ultimately like to see happen is a kickboxing match between himself and the deputy who tased him.
