Hats off to Sage for doing a great job communicating the PCI-DSS requirements well in advance of the July 2010 timeframe that they say these new rules will take affect.

If you've missed the rules, here's what Sage has to say:

PCI-DSS is a set of requirements for enhancing payment account data security. Its standards include requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design, and other measures created to protect customer account data. Developed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa International (the founders of the PCI Security Standards Council), PCI-DSS is designed to facilitate global adoption of consistent data security measures.

Sage has designed a set of web sites tailored to their different ERP users. You can access the link below (and you should). The information is very well done - and Sage looks to be way ahead of the curve in actively promoting this information to their customers.

      Sage MAS 90 & MAS 200:

      http://www.sagemasinfo.com/M90PCI/

      Sage MAS 500:

      http://www.sagemasinfo.com/M500PCI/

      Sage Accpac:

      http://www.sageaccpacinfo.com/PCI/

I would encourage everyone to read these sites. If you're a VAR please direct your clients (or provide the information) to the appropriate site so they can review the information.

This makes great newsletter or web site material -- and Sage have already done the work in getting it all neatly organized!

Did Sage BPAC Members Get More Exposure Than They Bargained For

Sage's BPAC stands for Business Partner Advisory Council. They're a group of distinguished VARS who meet regularly with Sage to provide feedback on product plans and discuss other important issues.

In an email sent yesterday to Sage's Mid Market channel there was reportedly a major gaffe.

The email was intended to report on the progress of the BPAC - and users could click on one of the two links to download a summary of what was discussed at Sage's BPAC meeting held February 17 - 18 in Dallas.

According to a LinkedIN group member the second link titled "View the list of Mid Market BPAC members" should probably more accurately have been titled:

"View the list of Mid Market BPAC members, their sales for the year (broken out by new, upgrade, CRM), and also take a peek at who we didn't select and why".

      Oops.

The links to the email download documents were quickly redirected to http://www.sagesoftware.com but apparently not before the document made it into the wild.

      Don't you love the Internet!

      Presidents

Here we are posing on the final day of Sage's Presidents Circle held in Phoenix AZ at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa (January 25-27, 2010).

Tom Miller ran the channel for 20-ish at Great Plains then Microsoft. He's over at Sage now and has things well in hand. This was a final meeting before we all went our separate ways.

Peter Wolf of http://www.azamba.com/ was a Spirit Award Winner. Amy is just a winner.

      NOT AFFILIATED WITH SAGE

BlackBerry has just released an update to their BlackBerry Messenger software that is included on every BlackBerry device. This program allows for instant messaging between BlackBerry users. One of the new features which they added is an ability to create groups to facilitate group discussions and sharing of common items like pictures, tasks, and calendars.

For our purposes the ability to group chat may be handy for technical questions and answers.

      Here's how to join.

First, you need to be running BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.

This is a free download that you can obtain by visiting the following link on your BlackBerry browser:

      http://www.blackberry.com/messenger

Second, once you have BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 setup you can join by opening the BlackBerry Messenger menu and selecting "Scan a Group Barcode"

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/mas90guru/3993021428/

Then point your BlackBerry at the barcode below and you'll be added automatically to the group:

Open to anyone with an interest in Sage discussion - chat, technical, updates

By day I'm a consultant working with a popular line of accounting software called Sage MAS 90.

My company web site is http://www.s-consult.com and we provide training, consulting and troubleshooting for all versions of Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 to customers located throughout the United States.

I live in Glastonbury with my two kids (aged 9) who bring special meaning to the concept that "all kids are cute when they're somebody else's".

In my spare time I love hiking, disco dancing, macrame, ping pong, and watching paint dry.

The thoughts and commentary on this page are my own and not anyone else's but shouldn't that be obvious?
