ShopRite iPhone app (free) integrates their weekly sales flier - lets you create shopping list on iPhone

About three years ago I stopped subscribing to the Sunday paper. Everything I need to read is available online so I didn't feel the need to receive a massive paper on my doorstep when 85% of it went unread. The one thing I missed were the weekly grocery sales circulars.

Shop Rite grocery stores in Connecticut have a new free iPhone application that makes shopping their weekly sales even easier - and you don't have to subscribe to any newspapers to get the flier!.

ShopRite Weekly Specials (free). This application works with all ShopRite stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. It connects automatically via Wi-Fi or cellular data and displays the stores' weekly sales flier. Create a list of items you need using either  the ShopRite web site (which offers an area to maintain a shopping list )  -- or  on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Lists created on the ShopRite web site are synced to your iPhone/Touch - and vice versa.

If you're traveling then you can use the GPS on your iPhone 3GS to locate a store that's close to you (set a radius of 5 to 50 miles).

Nice
- free
- uses GPS to find location
- maintains grocery list with pricing

How About Adding
- a place to scan in the bar code on your ShopRite Plus  card and have it usable via the application
- aisle numbers in the shopping list
- push notifications for when an item goes on sale that you regularly purchase

Netsuite for iPhone available in the iTunes App Store

Netsuite is one of the first ERP applications that I have noticed in the App store. Most of the functionality is read only viewing of trends and data.

MLB.com At Bat 2009 adds ability to purchase individual live games .99 each. Imagine how pissed AT&T is that they can't get in on this!

Apple blogger legally unlocks iPhone

An iPhone blogger has revealed a way of legally unlocking the device after paying off his mobile contract.

TheAppleBlog.com’s Olly Farshi claimed he legitimately unlocked his two-year-old iPhone 3G by taking advantage of what appears to be a European loophole.

He simply paid off a two-year contract with his carrier, Sonera. The Finland-based firm then forwarded the request to Apple and the next time Farshi synched with iTunes he was prompted to install an official carrier update.

“When upgrading to the iPhone 3GS, those same customers are given the option to pay off the remainder of their original 3G contract. Paying off the contract, and thus completing the two years prematurely, entitles the customer to have their iPhone 3G unlocked,” he wrote.

An official message popped up confirming that his “iPhone had been officially unlocked”.

Farshi described Sonera, which is the exclusive iPhone distributor in Finland, as a “less-repugnant version of AT&T”, before adding that the telco had “turned out to be a somewhat benevolent carrier”.

He claimed that “going the legit route was a much more painless process than using a proxy SIM or the Dev Team’s unofficial unlock”.

According to Farshi the unlock is permanent, allowing him to keep updating the iPhone’s OS, as well as being able to use any carrier SIM in the device.

Apple Highest Grossing Retailer on Fifth Avenue as Crowds Swell

As vacancies increase and retail sales throughout the U.S. remain a shadow of the decade’s boom, Apple Inc.’s stores are defying the recession.

At Fifth Avenue and Fifty-Ninth Street, the noon-day line on Aug. 11 snaked out the front door. More than a dozen people waited to buy an iPhone, which runs from $99 to $299, plus at least another $70 a month for a service plan. Every computer, seat and station was occupied by a visitor to midtown Manhattan.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, increased revenue at its stores by 2.5 percent in the first six months of the year to $3 billion as the rest of the retail industry suffered. During the same period, sales at all U.S. retailers fell 9.2 percent compared with the first half of 2008, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.

Retail sales in New York City have fallen 8 percent to 10 percent from comparable 2008 levels, according to the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book business survey published July 29.

“Even if they are not spending money elsewhere, people are still spending money on technology gadgets,” said Patricia Edwards, a retail analyst and founder of Storehouse Partners LLC in Bellevue, Washington. “It’s both a need and a want. It fulfills that retail-therapy component.”

Apple’s store performance in the last year has been driven by the iPhone, according to Charlie Wolf, an analyst who covers Apple at Needham & Co. in New York. The retail operation saw a 22 percent increase in traffic during the quarter ended June 27, hosting a total of 38.6 million visitors, Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer said on a conference call in July.

Apple’s shares have almost doubled this year. The stock climbed $2.89, or 1.7 percent, to $169.22 on Aug. 21 in Nasdaq Stock Market trading.

A Mercedes Per Square Foot

Apple’s Fifth Avenue emporium probably has annual sales of more than $350 million, topping any of the chain’s other outlets, said Jeffrey Roseman, executive vice president of real- estate broker Newmark Knight Frank Retail in New York. The location is 10,000 square feet, putting its sales per square foot at a minimum of $35,000, based on Roseman’s estimate.

Guys, the MacBook Micro has been announced. You're going to love it. It's three things: a Powebook from 1998, a student's art project, and a really short email. We hear it may boast a camera, too. Check out the gallery below to see this wonder of modern technology doing its thing... you will not be disappointed.

[Thanks, James]

Unless I've missed Apple's official announcement somewhere, Walt Mossberg in his review published late last night appears to have announced what we've all been assuming and speculating about.

A new iPhone will indeed be announced by Apple at Monday's WWDC.
